Frosty Frogs

I wasn't surprised to find ice on my pond,
but amazed to see frogs swimming round!
Under the ice, they looked locked in time;
but they survived to croak their old sound.

Whilst this was true for that winter, I am sad to say that in Feb 2001, I found that several frogs did not survive what seemed a less severe winter.
